Desiree M. Hautea

Dr. Hautea is a professor of genetics and crop biotechnology in the College of Agriculture and Food Science, University of the Philippines Los Baños. Dr. Hautea’s main areas of expertise are molecular genetics and breeding, crop biotechnology and biosafety and plant genetic resources.

Dr. Hautea is an untiring researcher, generating several internationally- and nationally- funded research grants. She has authored several, well-cited scientific publications, and presented numerous papers in national and international scientific conferences. As a teacher, she contributed to curriculum development and has taught courses in her areas of expertise. She has mentored undergraduate, Ph.D and M.Sc. students.

Dr. Hautea served as director of the Institute of Plant Breeding and held positions as board member, reviewer and technical expert in national government agencies, international organizations and peer-reviewed scientific journals.

Dr. Hautea obtained her B.S. and M.S. degrees from UPLB, and Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. She is a recipient of various honors and awards including Fulbright-Hayes scholar, Rockefeller Foundation post-doctoral fellow, National Academy of Science and Technology of the Philippines’s outstanding young scientist and 2017 UPLB outstanding researcher.
